Its leaves fold upwards during the evening, resembling a posture of prayer, which is how it got its common name. This unique feature, along with its vivid foliage, adds an interactive and colourful touch to any indoor space.
What Is the History of the Prayer Plant Lemon Lime?
The Prayer Plant family, Maranta, is native to tropical regions of Brazil and was named after Bartolomeo Maranta, a 16th-century Italian botanist. The Lemon Lime variant is a cultivar that was developed to produce brighter, more striking foliage. It has gained significant attention in recent years for its vivid leaves and unique nyctinastic movements (leaf folding).
Where Does the Prayer Plant Lemon Lime Originate?
The original Maranta species, from which the Prayer Plant Lemon Lime cultivar was developed, is indigenous to the Brazilian rainforest. The tropical conditions there provide a clue to the plant's preferred environment: warm, humid, and shielded from direct sunlight.
How Do You Care for a Prayer Plant Lemon Lime?
The Prayer Plant Lemon Lime thrives in moderate to bright, indirect light, and appreciates high humidity. To achieve optimal growth, water the plant when the soil surface starts to dry, using room-temperature water. Overwatering should be avoided, as it can lead to root rot. For nutrition, use a balanced liquid fertiliser every four to six weeks during the growing season.

Ordered 3 plants here. Previous experiences have been excellent. 2 of the 3 ordered were in less than desirable condition. On one of them, all but one of the stems had broken off. It has since died. On another the plant took up absolutely no space in the pot at all. It’s as if they were out of stock of the size I requested so they put a baby one in a larger pot with extra soil. Such a shame.

Thought I was ordering some great deals, with decent discounts off regular prices. Plants arrived quickly, exceedingly well packaged - unfortunately, a little too tightly wrapped, as some of the foliage on plants was squashed and simply fell off when out of the packaging. Additionally, those bargains I thought I'd found turned out to be not so great - plants were all very healthy-looking, but all of them deviated greatly from the stated size ranges on the website (a tradescantia advertised as 10-20cm in size measured no more than 8cm at its single tallest point). Given how much I paid versus what I received, I think it'll probably be better to just buy from a local seller in future, as I'll at least be able to see exactly what I'm getting.
