Perfect for beginners, Hen & Chicks are wonderfully low-maintenance succulents with compact rosettes of fleshy, evergreen foliage.
You will receive one surprise Sempervivum plant selected from our current mix. The exact variety, colour and pattern will depend on availability, so your plant may feature shades of green, red, pink, purple or silver. Specific varieties cannot be requested — the surprise is part of the fun!
Hen & Chicks get their charming name from the small offsets, or “chicks”, that grow around the original “hen” plant. Over time, these can form an attractive cluster of rosettes, making each plant increasingly full and characterful.
Place in a bright, sunny position and allow the compost to dry thoroughly between waterings. Sempervivums are particularly well suited to sunny windowsills, outdoor containers, rockeries and gravel gardens, provided they are planted in very free-draining soil.
Please note: You will receive one surprise plant from our current Sempervivum mix. Images show examples of the varieties available, and the plant supplied may differ in colour and appearance. Decorative pots are sold separately.

Houseplant Size Guide
At Houseplant.co.uk, we want to ensure that you choose the perfect plant for your space. Here's how we measure our plants:
Plant Height:
Measured from the base of the nursery pot to the top of the plant, including the full length of the stem and foliage.
Pot Size:
Refers to the total width across the top of the pot.
Choosing the Right Size
To find the perfect fit, compare the diameter of your plant's grow pot to the opening diameter of your chosen decorative pot. Ensure the decorative pot is at least 1-3cm larger in diameter than the grow pot for easy insertion and removal.
Important Notes
- Plant sizes are approximate and include the depth of the plant pot and roots, not just the height from the top of the soil.
- If a specific plant size is not available, we may provide a larger plant at no additional cost to you.
- All of our plants, unless otherwise stated are supplied in a nursery pot with the exception of air plants or lucky bamboo or otherwise listed in the product description.
