Houseplant Size Guide

Plant height measurement: How we measure the height of our houseplants from pot to top

At Houseplant.co.uk, we want to ensure that you choose the perfect plant for your space. Here's how we measure our plants:

Plant Height:

Measured from the base of the nursery pot to the top of the plant, including the full length of the stem and foliage.

Pot Size:

Refers to the total width across the top of the pot.

Choosing the Right Size

To find the perfect fit, compare the diameter of your plant's grow pot to the opening diameter of your chosen decorative pot. Ensure the decorative pot is at least 1-3cm larger in diameter than the grow pot for easy insertion and removal.

Important Notes

  • Plant sizes are approximate and include the depth of the plant pot and roots, not just the height from the top of the soil.
  • If a specific plant size is not available, we may provide a larger plant at no additional cost to you.

Fishbone Cactus Care Guide

Caring for your fresh new Fishbone Cactus is a breeze! Simply pop yours in a bright, warm spot and water once the soil fully dries, ideally with lukewarm rain, distilled or filtered water. Repot once roots begin poking out of its drainage holes with well draining succulent soil, and feed once per month over Spring/Summer for a development boost.

What is the Fishbone Cactus Known For?

The Fishbone Cactus stands out in the plant world for its zigzag, fishbone-like leaves, which give it a distinctive appearance unlike any other houseplant. Its unique foliage, combined with its status as a low-maintenance cactus, makes it a fascinating addition to any indoor plant collection.

What Is the History of the Fishbone Cactus?

Epiphyllum Anguliger, commonly referred to as the Fishbone Cactus, has a rich history tied to the rainforests of Mexico, where it grows as an epiphyte among the trees. Its cultivation outside its native region began due to its intriguing shape and the beauty of its nocturnal flowers, which have captivated gardeners and indoor plant enthusiasts for generations.

Where Does the Fishbone Cactus Originate?

Originating from the lush rainforests of Mexico, the Fishbone Cactus has adapted to life in the canopies, absorbing moisture and nutrients from the air and rainfall. This background explains its preference for humid conditions and indirect light, mimicking the dappled sunlight of its natural habitat.

Are Fishbone Cactus Toxic to Pets?

One of the many benefits of the Fishbone Cactus is its non-toxicity to pets. Unlike many cacti and succulents, this plant does not possess harmful toxins, making it a safer choice for households with curious pets who might take a nibble.
