At Houseplant.co.uk, we want to ensure that you choose the perfect plant for your space. Here's how we measure our plants:
Plant Height:
Measured from the base of the nursery pot to the top of the plant, including the full length of the stem and foliage.
Pot Size:
Refers to the total width across the top of the pot.
Choosing the Right Size
To find the perfect fit, compare the diameter of your plant's grow pot to the opening diameter of your chosen decorative pot. Ensure the decorative pot is at least 1-3cm larger in diameter than the grow pot for easy insertion and removal.
Important Notes
- Plant sizes are approximate and include the depth of the plant pot and roots, not just the height from the top of the soil.
- If a specific plant size is not available, we may provide a larger plant at no additional cost to you.

What Is the History of the Elephant Ear Polly?
Alocasia Amazonica, although named after the Amazon, is actually a hybrid that originated from human cultivation. Its precise ancestral origins are not clear, but it is believed to be a cross between Alocasia longiloba and Alocasia sanderiana, both native to the tropical rainforests of Southeast Asia.
Where Does the Elephant Ear Polly Originate?
Despite its name, the Elephant Ear Polly is not from the Amazon but is a man-made hybrid. The parent species are indigenous to Southeast Asia, where they grow in warm and humid environments that are replicated by plant enthusiasts in indoor settings.
Are Elephant Ear Polly Toxic to Pets?
No, the Elephant Ear Polly is not considered safe for pets. Similar to other Alocasia varieties, it contains insoluble calcium oxalates, which can cause irritation and swelling of the mouth, tongue, and throat if ingested by animals.
